My Birthday Lunch at Cringletie House Hotel
"Where shall we go for my birthday meal this year?"
.... That was the question I'd posed only a few hours before an email from the lovely Cath Couzens from Perception PR dropped into my inbox inviting me and my family along to the launch of the new Sunday Lunch menu at Cringletie House Hotel which happened to be on my birthday.
"Perfect, decision made!" I said and we were off to Peebles in the Scottish Borders.
Cringletie House has an impressive history and is imposing and impressive as you reach the top of the drive. Beautiful and extensive grounds surround the house itself including a croquet lawn, pitch and putt course and traditional walled garden. Inside, the hotel is traditionally decorated and we were welcomed with a broad smile and ushered up the wide tartan-carpeted staircase to the main dining room.
We had a large round table in one of the windows with lovely views of the gardens outside, and promptly ordered some champagne, because well, is it even a birthday without it? The kids even got champagne flutes full of appletiser to be part of the party! We raised a glass then ordered our meals.
I ordered the Spinach Pancake with babaganoush and lemon zest salad to start which was delicious and had a lovely kick to it followed by the Risotto of Summer Vegetables which was also very tasty and a lovely light meal for a summer lunch. I opted out of dessert but the others indulged and I happily sipped the rest of the champagne! We finished with teas and coffee in the lounge by the fire, which I would imagine in the winter time with it lit and the frosty world outside, would be a lovely place to unwind.
I couldn't fault the service throughout, all the staff were absolutely lovely and took care of us extremely well. We said our thanks and our goodbyes stopping off in the snug bar for a wee dram which was a lovely way to conclude our meal before heading outside to explore the grounds.
The kids were keen to have a go at croquet and that quickly became competitive - I can't remember now who won but it definitely wasn't me! Then we wandered over to the walled garden and took a wander round looking at the flower beds, the kids found a play area an we all had a go at boules followed by giant chess!
We had a lovely time visiting Cringletie House Hotel and sure we'll be back again.
